Azores Wine Company is a company founded in 2014 by winemaker António Maçanita, by Filipe Rocha and Paulo Machado. Its objective is to promote the unique and exclusive nature and history of Azorean wines, studying them, exploring new techniques and always enhancing their quality.
One of this company's projects was the opening of a winery on Pico Island. The construction work began in 2018 and was completed around the 2020 harvest.
This space, which also includes a small hotel, was designed by SAMI Arquitetos and DRHR atelier. The building's design was inspired by the old “currais” that traditionally protect the island's vineyards. A kind of cube, with a sloping roof and stone cladding, houses the wine cellar area, wine tasting rooms, event areas and the accommodation zone, which has 6 rooms. More than a hotel, it's a wine cellar where you can stay overnight.
FN hotelaria was the company responsible for the design, supply and installation of equipment for the kitchen, pantry, bar and storage area.
